Livelihood for the Less-fortunate

One of the major thrusts of CESCOD is poverty alleviation. In line with this , CESCOD in partnership with Japan Fund for Poverty Reduction (JFPR) and concerned LGUs assisted marginalized farmers in five barangays of Dipolog City and five barangays of Katipunan , Zamboanga del Norte. The beneficiaries were chosen through a participatory poverty assessment in the target communities facilitated by CESCOD. (more…)

10th year of CESCOD’s Educational Assistance Program

This year marks the 10th year of CESCOD’s Educational Assistance Program. The program started in 1998 when CESCOD established several literacy centers in the municipality of Siayan Zamboanga del Norte for the Subanen people in the area. The Bureau of Non-formal Education of DEP-Ed was then the partner of CESCOD and the project was funded by ADB. Around two thousand adults living in the remote villages of Siayan finished level 1 and level 2 of the literacy program. The ADB funded project ran for four years. (more…)

The Theology of the Sacramentality of Creation

“And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it(Genesis 2:15).”

The world is inhabited by the Sacred. All created beings are a sign and a revelation of the Creator who leaves an imprint everywhere. This is the theology of St. Bonaventure, following the experience of St. Francis. To purposely destroy any aspect of creation is to deface the image of Christ present in all of creation. Christ suffers not only when people are denied of their rights and exploited but when seas, rivers and forests are desecrated. When creation is perceived as sacramental, manifesting and leading us to God, our relationship with others is also challenged to move from one of dominance and power to one of reverence and respect. WATER : GIFT AND RESPONSIBILITY

Water sustains life on earth. It is our duty to take care of it, as it takes care of the whole humankind. Without it, life is an impossibility. Access to safe water is a universally basic human right and is essential to human life. We must control water as a public trust and as an inalienable human right.

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN : Water is both a gift and responsibility. It is a gift from Nature. It is here, there and almost everywhere. Nature itself creates water and replenishes it. It is a magical compound with magical properties.

It is a universal medium. Its universal existence and application makes it an indispensable component of the universe. Water is a perfect medium. A medium where ships can float far more efficiently than the vehicles can ply on the road. The dancing colorful fish thrive in this medium.

While we can survive for weeks or even months without food, we cannot tolerate water deprivation for more than a few days. It is indeed an elixir of life! (more…)
