PhilDHRRA Mindanao Coordinator appointed to CODE-NGO Board


PhilDHRRA Coordinator for Mindanao, Mr. Rolando B. Abando, was recently elected to the CODE-NGO Board last August 5, 2008, as the third MinCODE representative to the council. MinCODE is mandated with three board seats at the CODE Board but with the resignation of Ms. Mayen Olmedo as MinCODE’s 3rd representative to CODE, a new call for election for the vacated seat led to the nomination and subsequent election of Mr. Abando to the policy making body.

PCEEM Davao: Newest PhilDHRRA Member


The enduring process of application by The People Collaborating for Environmental and Economic Management in Davao (PCEEM Davao) Foundation’s application for membership with the Philippine Partnership for the Development of Human Resources in Rural Areas (PhilDHRRA) finally paid off with the satisfactory approval of their membership bid by the Regional Board of Trustees of PhilDHRRA – Mindanao last July 14, 2008.

PhilDHRRA Mindanao attends 2nd Japan-Philippines NGO Symposium


PhilDHRRA – Mindanao Coordinator, Mr. Rolando B. Abando was invited to speak at the 2nd Japan-Philippines NGO Symposium held in Tokyo last July 17-21, 2008 as a representative of the Philippines-Japan NGO Partnership Network (PJP) whom PhilDHRRA is a member. Bannered by the theme “Empowering the Poor for Poverty Alleviation towards MDGs: Partnership Building between Japanese and Philippine NGOs” the symposium was aimed to further the partnership among NGOs and other civil society sectors of the two countries and to develop a long term joint scheme to contribute to the empowerment of peoples suffering from poverty in the Philippine society. More than a hundred CSO participants, together with Japanese parliament members, officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and local Japanese NGOs, participated in discussing how to effectively support the marginalized groups in the Philippines.

Church-NGO CONVERSATION conducts “Communal Discernment –Action Planning” for NRC in CDO Archdiocese


Seventy-five representatives from the Church, academe and NGO sectors convened its 12th CONVERSATION meeting on August 1, 2008 in the archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro in response to the call and challenges of the Catholic church to actively engage in the recently concluded CBCP initiated National Rural Congress.

PhilDHRRA Mindanao support ICT Capacity Building of Member NGOs


PhilDHRRA Mindanao has embarked on a three-day Management Information Systems (MIS) Training Workshop last May 28-30,2008 at PhilDHRRA Caraga PMO Office in San Francisco, Agusan del Sur. As part of the network’s ICT Capacity building series to boost CSO operations efficiency, the MIS training concentrated on data base designing, installation and management with the use of Microsoft Access Program.
