Kahayag Training Institute on Gender (KAHAYAG)

2007 Accomplishment Highlights

In March of 2007, Kahayag Foundation finalized a partnership with GTZ to implement the project, “Training Program for Gender Parity in Economics and Peacebuilding.”  In general, the project aimed to enable KATIG to systematize and mobilize its existing pool of resources into a training program on conflict transformation and poverty reduction which gender advocates who seek to build their capacities can avail of.

The first course for the Program “Training Course on Gender Mainstreaming” was conducted in April and well attended. The participants expressed appreciation for the resource persons and how the whole course was run and managed. At the end of the course, the participants came up with respective action plans as to how they would be implementing gender mainstreaming in their own organizations. They also signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with KATIG stating that they are to submit a brief annual report for two years as to how they were able to implement their action plans.

The second installation “Course on Gender Responsive Community Organizing and Community Development” was conducted in June. It was so successful that after the training, the participants asked to be invited again for the succeeding training courses by KATIG. Action planning and the signing of MOA were again done at the end of the four-day activity.

The last training activity held was on “Gender and Peacebuilding.” It was mainly attended by participants representing organizations into peacebuilding efforts. Participants expressed appreciation for the learning imparted to them by the activity.

The remaining two courses for the Program are scheduled to be implemented in the first quarter of 2008.
