2007 Accomplishment Highlights

Community-Based Coastal Resource Management Project in Melgar Bay

The project aimed to protect, conserve and rehabilitate the coastal resources of Melgar Bay. The outputs of the project included: organized and strengthened POs, BFARMCs, and BLGUs of Barangays Geotina, Sta. Monica & New Nazareth of Basilisa, Surigao del Norte; the formulation of the Community-Based Coastal Resource Management Plan in the three barangay beneficiaries and the establishment of a 15 hectare community-based marine sanctuary; the reforestation of 6 hectares of mangrove and; livelihood support to barangay-beneficiaries.

Action for Conflict Transformation (ACT) for Peace Program

The Program was a peace-building and conflict and transformation initiative meant to respond to the complex situation in Southern Philippines.

The engagement of AIDFI was to continue undertaking community organizing related to peace-building and social preparation. This was connected to the implementation of development intervention in Peace and Development Communities (PDCs) throughout the area.

Some major accomplishments during the implementation of the program were providing for the construction and equipment of Barangay Health Stations, the provision of livelihood projects and the building and rehabilitation of water sources, from potable water systems to irrigation systems. These initiatives were undertaken through barangays in Agusan del Norte and Surigao del norte.

MIRANT 148 Community Organizing Project

Set in fifteen barangays through Lugus and Pandami in Sulu Province, this project aimed to contribute to the peace and development initiatives in Mindanao by improving the quality of life in un-electrified rural communities through sustainable renewable energy.
AIDFI worked to conduct community organizing in fifteen (15) barangays in Sulu as an important component of the process before the installation of the Solar Home Packages in the initial thirty households of the fifteen barangays.

Fifteen Barangay Renewable Energy Community Development Associations (BRECDA) were re-strengthened with complete organizational re-structuring. Each of the organizations was electrified and policies on tariffs were well implemented, with collections made and management of electrified barangays improving.

Integrated Development Assistance for Mamanwa Tribal Communities Project

The project formulated a resource and environmental plan for two villages. There were seven capacity enhancement activities such as SALT and Agro-forestry trainings, Primary Health Care, Livestock and Poultry Management, Health and Nutrition Trainings and Organizational Management and Development training.

A program of non-formal education was also conducted, resulting in sixty four students who can now write their names legibly and can read three-syllable words.

Mainit Community-Based Resource Management Initiative

The project focused on environmental protection and conservation as well as livelihood assistance activities. Its main focus was to protect biodiversity in the lowland, upland and Lake Ecosystem in Lake Mainit Influence Area specifically in the Municipality of Mainit, Surigao del Norte.
